The apartmentsh are made specifically for people with multiple disabilities and intellectually disabled, lie in four clusters with green areas, courtyard environments and a shared activity centre. The bathroom solution includes Ropox Support washbasin, Toilet Supports and grabs/rails which make everyday routines easier and safer for the residents.
Challenge: Creating modern homes for people with complex disabilities
In spring 2020, 28 new accessible homes were completed in Mårslet near Aarhus, Denmark. Designed for people with multiple disabilities and intellectual disabilities, the development consists of four residential clusters surrounded by green spaces, courtyard environments and a shared activity centre.
The goal was to create homes where residents could enjoy the same opportunities for independence, dignity and quality of life as everyone else, while living in an environment designed around accessibility, safety and community.
Strategy: Combining accessible design with everyday support
The entire development was designed according to the principles of inclusive design and modern welfare technology, ensuring that each home could support the individual needs of its residents.
Particular attention was given to the bathrooms, where the layout and equipment were carefully selected to make daily routines easier and safer while also providing the flexibility needed for assisted care when required.
Solution: Flexible and supportive bathroom solutions
Each bathroom is equipped with a height-adjustable Ropox SupportLine washbasin featuring integrated support rails, providing residents with a stable point of support during everyday personal care.
The bathrooms also include Ropox toilet supports, grab rails and support rails positioned to provide additional stability when using the toilet or shower. Together, these solutions create a bathroom environment that is both accessible and easy to use.
Result: Greater safety and independence in everyday life
The accessible bathroom solutions help residents carry out more daily activities independently while providing a safe environment whenever assistance is needed.
By combining thoughtful design with flexible support solutions, the new homes in Mårslet promote greater independence, improved safety and a higher quality of life for residents, while also creating better conditions for relatives and care professionals.
