Establishment of fully accessible holiday homes

Challenge
When Sue Robinson and her husband, Phil, designed two new holiday lodges, Meadow Lodges, in Lincolnshire, England, they had a unique vision in mind. They wanted to offer accommodations that were truly accessible, yet without it looking accessible.
Their goal was to create a space that would cater to both able-bodied individuals and those with disabilities, and they set about researching the best equipment which would blend into the environment.
This challenge was twofold: to design accommodations that were functionally accessible while maintaining an aesthetically pleasing environment.

Strategy
Sue and Phil wanted to ensure that their lodges were not just accessible but also emphasized a welcoming and inclusive environment. Their strategy involved comprehensive research to identify adaptive equipment that would seamlessly integrate with the lodges’ aesthetic and function. After careful consideration, they found the ideal solution in ROPOX height-adjustable kitchen worktops.

Solution
Sue and Phil opted for the installation of electric rise and fall worktops with integrated electric hobs and sinks for their lodges. They chose the white finish for one lodge and the black finish for the other, adding a touch of style.
In addition to the accessible kitchens, both lodges feature two bedrooms with ensuite accessible bathrooms and a large living area with plenty of space for a wheelchair user.
Accessibility extends to the lodges’ exterior, with wheelchair-friendly access, level parking, and an electric charging point at the front. At the rear, bi-folding doors lead out onto a patio area and landscaped gardens.

Result
The impact of Sue and Phil’s strategy was very positive. Guests who have stayed in the lodges, including leading accessible travel writer and speaker Carrie-Ann Lightley, have applauded the level of accessibility, in particular, the height-adjustable kitchen worktops. This feature enables users to adjust the worktop height at the touch of a button, granting them the independence to use the kitchen as they please.
